The fishing weekend/The special Mommy/Little guy weekend!

Ahhhh, it's that time again, where Kurt goes away fishing for the weekend... and Mommy has a big party weekend with the little guys!  Click here for a past example of what we have done while he is gone :-)

Except starting last year, he started taking our oldest boy!  So click here for a reminder of what the little one and I did last year!  Fun!  And this year was no different!

Looks like the fishing guys are having a great time in a special and beautiful place!

Some who don't love technology... I have to say it is very cool that I can know they are doing well, and see what their beautiful spot looks like!

We have been having a great time here as well!  Starting on Friday afternoon when they had left before school ended, I went to school to pick up the little one.  I suggested going to the Children's Garden at Assiniboine Park, but he said they have no monkey bars and wanted to go to a different place... he asked a little friend at school on the spot, and off we all went to The Forks new playground!  Well!  That ended up becoming getting hotdogs, ice cream, walking around the little shops... then by the time we got home it was time for bed!  That was fun!  At this point I must add that our city is AMAZING for having special things for kids, like these 2 parks that have been built in the past 2 years... so great!

So this morning we got up... at 6am!  Gah!  I really thought he would sleep in!  I always thought it was the older guy stirring that made him get up too... but today - yikes!  Oh well!  Got us ready to go ahead with my plan... We went to The Pancake House at The Forks for breakfast, and then this weekend happens to be THE weekend for kids:  Kidsfest!  This is what I am talking about, with Winnipeg!  This is not a tiny city, but it is not huge either!  Its population is well under 1 million, and yet the wonderful opportunities for kids are astounding!  For example, go back to the last post where we went to the Manitoba Museum!  The amazing science gallery downstairs from the main museum is so much fun!  The website that I just linked to doesn't even have 20% of the great things they can do in there!

Anyway, so off we went to The Pancake House, where my niece was brought by my mom to have a surprise time with us for most of the day!  And my friend Andrea who is on the board of Kidsfest came to hang out with us as well... Was that ever helpful!  She knew all the special areas, and all the stages... and really helped out by pulling the wagon seeing as my foot is still broken!  I am so glad that I found out this week that I could drive finally (after 4 weeks) at least, but for long walks I am still supposed to wear the big boot... I have learned that my foot will really ache if I push it...

Anyway!  Here are some examples of the day!

Getting face painting to start off the day!  We were so early there was no line!

Some crafts!  I made a couple of these, too!

So many pool noodles!  This was a big hit!

That is a corn snake.... Good thing I was there, because his dad hates snakes :-)

Something called Critter Dipping from Oak Hammock Marsh!  I think that they must bring stuff that is in the marsh there and put it in a big container, and you can use a spoon to pick them up and see them up close... and then your mom makes you use hand sanitizer!  (and with the snake, too)

Some skills practice!  He used the hula hoop too!

There were constant mascots everywhere!  I think they hugged this guy about 3 different times!  But - have you ever worn a suit like that?  Because I have and they are HOT HOT HOT inside, and it was winter and I was indoors when I wore it!  This is outside, in a hot day, wearing a black suit!  That guy NEEDED a hug!  And perhaps a Thirst Aid hat with some Gatorade flowing!  I'm sure it would fit under the penguin head!

Bought the t-shirt... come on!  Look how cute it is!

Then for a finale, we watched "Step Afrika" which was this AMAZING group from Washington!  Wow!  They were super talented, funny, entertaining... and of course my little tap/step dancer was happy!

Here is the group performing, so you can see how incredible they are!

There were fantastic musicians, magic shows etc throughout the day... plus wandering performers!  At one point, Mr. Mark came up to us with his many faceted instrument and played stuff as we waited in line for some lemonaide!

We came home, with the little one looking quite lethargic, but he said he was "not tired" then fell asleep for an hour!  Off we went for more treats when he woke up... and now he has learned to love Burrito Del Rio, like his mommy!  He didn't want them to put half the stuff they put on it, but I told him he needs to try the whole thing the way it is to get the experience... well, apparently it's "delicious"!!

What will we do tomorrow?  Not sure yet!  Last I checked the weather was rainy... so if that stays, then Science Gallery and Planetarium... but if it clears up then Zoo and Polar Playground!
