Christmas fun!

Merry Christmas! We had a nice morning together around our Christmas tree, playing, and having a nice breakfast that Kurt skillfully made for us! In the late afternoon, we joined Nana and Bop, and the Gordon contingent of the family for lots of playing (and discussions about how to play Star Wars) and celebrating.
The previous night on Christmas Eve was pretty exciting, too. This year was the first year that our big boy was in the Nativity play at church... he was a lamb and he really enjoyed playing the part! Sometimes he had a conflict of character as could be seen when he would discuss with the director that he wasn't a sheep, he was Anakin Skywalker, but for the most part he stuck with the sheep! He did a great job of crawling along on his hands and knees, and sang "Away in a Manger" like a little pro!
He was very protective of Jesus, who bore an uncanny resemblance to our little one... Big Boy couldn't take his eyes off of his little brother during his first role on the stage!

Sooooo.... still not walking very well, but I know a really good Massage Therapist who's helping me out a lot :-)

Big Boy hasn't been feeling very well for the last week, but he's still as sweet as can be... he's very careful to cough into his sleeve and not touch the baby, except for little tiny kisses on his little brother's head... I was cuddling with him yesterday while Little One had a mini nap, and Big Boy said "Mommy, I wish this hug would last forever"... me too, sweetie!

One week gone by and... WOW!

So.... I tried to go out briefly for the first time today, just to get 2-3 things at a grocery store... I basically only walked from the house to the car and the car to the store (and then a tiny bit inside). So what I learned is: I'M NOT READY FOR THAT YET!! I guess as all my bones SLOWLY go back in place, I'm feeling a LOT of weird stuff, like one of my legs don't really feel attached to my hip, and now the only way I can go up and down the stairs in my own house is using both my hands and feet. And this was me just going out by myself for only 30 minutes... I have a long road ahead of me, I think. I guess considering how intense the pain is for a natural birth, it only makes sense that it may take longer than a week to get over it! I just read in the December Today's Parent how many new moms can actually experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder because of their experiences! Yikes! Those were some pretty extreme stories, but I do have to say that I was in shock for the whole day he was born because I kept telling Kurt that I was still feeling the fear I felt with all the pain, and I kept having to remind myself that it was over and it wasn't going to happen again...

Big Boy is still just loving being the big brother, and always wants to cuddle his little brother. He's really observant about everything our little one does. He often points out how he moves his arms, or the sounds he makes, or facial expressions.

Thought I'd show a picture of Big Boy when he was one week old, to show how similar they look... and yet they are both their own little people!

Here's he is:

And here is our little one!

Our baby boy is here!

Our new baby boy was born, punctually, on his due date: Wednesday, November 22nd at 8am (well, 7:59am), and weighs 8 pounds (well... and .03 oz)! The whole experience was very quick... labour started at about 2:30am, and he was cuddling with us at 8am... We were out of the hospital the next day (Thursday) at 6pm.

Big brother is filled with awe and pride to be the big brother... he's very protective and loving with his new little family member. He kisses him all the time, and wants to hold him. He sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Hush, Baby to him while he cuddles him. Today, while Baby was in a bouncy chair, he started to fuss a bit, and he ran over saying "I think he's crying because he's hungry!" and proceeded, in a soft sing-song voice to say "It's okaaaayyy... I'm heeeere.... It's okay little babeeeee...." Needless to say, he's quite into his role as big brother right now!

WELL... getting close now!

Well, hopefully we are getting close... the due date is November 22nd, but seeing as our big boy was 2 weeks early, and the August ultrasound suggested that the date was more like November 10th (tomorrow), then that would be PRETTY SOON! It's pretty hard to walk around now, so even though I'm trying to move by walking through Superstore or wherever, I'm finding that it's getting to be a bit much. Every morning, our big boy comes up to my tummy and says "Come out, Baby!" He still insists that the baby is a sister, so we try to suggest that maybe it's a brother OR a sister, because we don't actually know! He's pretty excited!

First of the belly pics (sort of)

We are expecting our second baby, e.d.d. November 22nd 2006. Our big boy figured this out almost immediately. When I was only a few weeks pregnant, out of the blue he said "There's a baby in your tummy!" and continued to say this over a period of several days. Kurt and I couldn't figure it out because we were going to wait to tell him and talk to him about it because 40 weeks is a long time for a 3 year old to wait... so we just ended up going along with what he already seemed to have figured out!

Here, so far, is the only picture of the new baby to come... hard to see when I'm wearing a huge tent of a fleece, but just to let you know, it doesn't usually stick out THAT much haha!

He's so excited about the baby... he's always putting his head on my tummy or patting it and saying "I'm cuddling the baby" or "I'm patting the baby" and he carries a baby doll around with him, changing it and holding it while telling all of us to "shhhhh" because it's sleeping. As well, he's soooo interested in friends' babies, playing peek a boo with older ones, and making sure to by very gentle with tiny ones. Should be interesting to see what happens. He'll be 3 years and 9 months old when the baby is born.

Here is another one, from my Dad's birthday brunch at The Pancake House. We all went to the zoo after this, which was pretty fun!

welcome!

Thanks to visiting some different friends' blogs here, I thought I'd try out the place for posting about our family to those around the country and the world that we like to keep in touch with! I had a picture site, but it's sort of impersonal compared to this! We'll see! I've opened and closed a lot of different accounts like this!
