Our little one's 2nd birthday party!
Our little boy was very excited about his party today! He had a lot of fun running around after cousins and little friends, and having Dora (and Diego and Baby Jaguar) cupcakes with ice cream, although he was very nervous when Dora's chocolate hair came off her head... and kind of creeped out about trying it! Eventually he decided it was yummy!

Happy 2nd birthday to our little one!!
Our little one is now 2 whole years old TODAY! Yeah.... He doesn't totally get it yet, but he is quite pleased with receiving a few little presents... We keep saying "happy birthday" to him, and he keeps mimicking us in response with his 2 year old version of the words. He's still sort of young enough that our big boy and I took him to buy some presents right in front of him, but we couldn't get the little Dora set out of his hands!
I make him a Chocolate Mars Bar cake that had no eggs in it, so our little one got to try his cake a little early:

Here he is in some new birthday pajamas, with one of his favourite little characters on it... It's not Dora, but there's not a lot of Dora pajamas out there for BOYS(although I did see some that were definitely for boys on eBay but the were waaaay too big):

Blowing out candles sequence:

The perfect end to a perfect day!

BOO!
We went to Boo! at the Zoo IN THE RAIN yesterday! I have to say, having umbrellas, and being dressed appropriately made it quite nice to be there, because now we could just WALK RIGHT IN to every ride and activity instead of the normal 20 minute wait for each! Our big boy wanted to be a bat, so I made him a costume based on instructions from familyfun.com which was GREAT because the wings are actually made out of an umbrella! Good timing for that! He didn't even need a jacket!

BEGINNING of Halloween fun!
We have lots of fun events that we like to do in the fall! We had to miss one this year because we were out of town a lot: watching the geese at one of our lovely nature centres, Fort Whyte or Oak Hammock Marsh!
However, we DID go to our big boy's favourite: A-Maze-In-Corn! He LOVES jumping on the hay bales!

Fortunately he doesn't care about going through the maze yet because it was REALLY muddy and we weren't wearing boots! We'll have to remember that for next year! However, this year it didn't matter at all, what with all the other activities they have!

In this one, you may be deceived by how calm this picture is, but our little one's feet are not actually touching any surface, because HE feels he can defy gravity and constantly sets out to prove this. Because of these constant scientific experiments of his, we are actually very used to stopping him from learning how his experiments SHOULD fail 100% of the time until he is old enough to understand some principles of the natural world a bit better:

Funny...
....today I asked our big boy, who is 5 and a half years old, what he thought about our little boy's new haircut. He said he thought that his little brother looked like "some random baby and [he] didn't even recognize him." :-)

Cottage fun, and eating pumpkin pie!
Wishing a happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Fall updates:
The weekend after the Labour Day weekend, Kurt's parents came to visit us at the cottage, along with my parents. There were some beautiful walks on the beach:
playing at the park:
...and some nice meals.
Last weekend we closed the cottage. We arrived in the evening, and because my parents had closed their cottage, we didn't have access to their shower, so here was our make-shift solution:
It was a beautiful weekend, so we enjoyed ourselves with a walk on the beach:
The boys amused themselves playing on "the big bad rock". I still don't know why Our big boy and his cousins have thusly named the rock, but the name seems to have lasted 3 seasons so far!
As well, we had a musical yelling competition, which I enjoyed because learning to sing and match pitch can come in many weird forms! Our little one already is quite the little singer! At one point, our big boy shows his directing skills when he uses his arms and voice (so no actual verbal instructions) to add a new rhythmic and melodic dimension to their little piece :-)
While our little one had a nap, our big boy helped me plant some fall bulbs... hopefully when we pull up in early spring, we will have some early tulips and daffodils to great us! As well, we planted some bluish-purple lilies that will come up later on.
This past weekend, we went to Naomi and Gary's to celebrate Thanksgiving with them. It was a fun day, with horseback riding:
You can see that someone thought the ride was too slow. What you're hearing is "GO!!! GO!!!"
...playing in leaves:
.... and generally burning off energy:
...and of course a great meal and PUMPKIN PIE! Kieran's favourite:
Unfortunately our big boy's stomach has been hurting for a few days, and he ended up saying his stomach hurt so much that Kurt took him to the local hospital at about 4-5am after having been awake with him up to that point. The doctor felt that it wasn't serious after some tests and checking, but after being up all night, we decided to go home early so everyone can relax before our hectic week starts again... clearly we were pretty tired as this is how most of the trip was spent:
