We went to the beach in January! It was a super nice weekend - only about -1C or even warmer, so little Skye ran along with us as we went skiing at Grand Beach! It is just a lovely trail that we visit on the way... felt like we were the only ones there!
Good thing she can keep up with us! Lol!
When we got to the cottage and started heating it up, we decided to go catch the last bit of light with a visit to the beach!
Next day we went back to visit again... lots of neat ice formations!
At the beginning of February (8th, in fact) we went skiing at Beaudry Park. So beautiful! While we were there, I was noticing my throat was starting to hurt and my head a bit as well... and breathing hurt a bit... but I was glad to get some exercise to keep my circulation moving even though I didn't feel too great...
Came home and started the first of many cuddles that Skye would give over the next few weeks of some sort of cold or something...
Here we are the following weekend with our Valentine's Day pancakes... I was starting to feel better, I thought... but I was pretty drained was starting to cough a lot... that cough took a few weeks to go away...
An evening Valentine's Day cake from Dairy Queen... yummy!
Then the following Friday it was my birthday! 44 years old... and so happy to have flowers from all my men! They each picked their own flowers for me! So beautiful and so sweet!
The younger one picked these ones because it reminded him of California :-)
Then we ordered Thai food, and the boys went off to plan an evening party for us in the sunroom! They asked me what theme I wanted, and I said "crazy alpaca" (I don't know, I made it up) and so that is what I got! I was still coughing here and there and a bit tired but still was no problem to play all the games and laugh at all the stuff they came up with! Cute decorations!
Pin the tail on the alpaca!!
Timed 3 legged races!!!
The next day we went to Festival du Voyageur on one of the coldest winter days! We were dressed for it, but WOW! -37 with the windchill! But so fun, and you can duck in and out of heated tents so no problem.
Tiré d'érable... so tasty!
Some fun tobogganing! At this point, another family we knew happened to show up at the same time, and they all had SO MUCH fun running around together, sliding down the hill, etc!
Well! Then it was time for this guy's birthday... because he is TWELVE! Yes, TWELVE!! We have this little tradition if it is a birthday during the week that before work/school we will share a few presents! This is a red panda that his little bro insisted on buying him (the 12 year old had picked it out at the zoo store months before... so sweet):
He had muffins with his class at school, and a few of the muffins had no chocolate chips in them on purposed because he had insisted we make something vegan for his student teacher... that is how thoughtful he is!
But, he is not a vegan himself, so here is his decidedly non-vegan dinner at Red Lobster! I think we've been going there for his birthday easily since he was 4 or 5 years old! He loves it!
But here is the big thing he wanted - an electric guitar! He was saving money and people were contributing money instead of getting him a gift... he's pretty happy!!
Here he is with the same pies he has requested for years... made from scratch, pie dough, lemon curd and all... I love his choices :-)
Back at Beaudry on March 1st! Lovely day! I realized it was 3 weeks before that I had started to have a sore throat, and how this time I felt pretty great :-)
He had a party with friends at Lasertopia the next weekend, and had a great time!
During this weekend, we visited Grandpa a few times at the hospital because he had a hip operation! So great to see them and so glad everything went well!
Then, we were all invited as a family to celebrate the 21st birthday of a pretty special friend! She has babysat, and played with our kids and visited with us for years... so special and the kids just love her! Was so honoured to be invited! Here is our little one dancing with her :-)
Suddenly it started to warm up so much, so it was snowman weather... but needed to be made right away or otherwise it would all melt! Great work, Mr. 12 Year Old!

Then off we went for our last ski of the season (I assume anyway... it could snow again) at Bird's Hill! It was 5 degrees and pretty slippery to ski! Beautiful day, though! March 8th and 5 degrees already!
There are little bird feeders at the beginning of the Chickadee Trail at Bird's Hill... I guess the chickadees like this idea!
The 12 year old also wanted to have a sleepover, so we made more pie! Interestingly, it was Pi Day the next day, so we had more to celebrate the next day too! This year was a special Pi Day, because not only is the date 3/14 (March 14th, aka 3.14, aka Pi) but it was March 14th, 2015... 3/14/15 which are the first 5 digits of Pi - 3.1415 ... and then to top it off, I paid attention and got a screen shot on my phone of when it was 9:26am and 53 seconds, because then it was Pi to the 10th digit! 3.141592653 ...
In the meantime, this weekend has been VERY WARM! Everything is melting! We went for a walk in St. Vital park ... the geese are back! Wasn't even wearing a jacket!
This morning, Kurt and I tried our new spa, Thermea! You can't take pictures there (and I don't know how you could anyway because your camera would get wrecked by the water or sauna or whatever) and that is just my new favourite place! So good for your health and so relaxing! I loved it so much because it is outside, with trees everywhere... I just love being outside so much that this place really suits that love, and the visual experience just adds to the whole relaxing atmosphere... going there again. Maybe tomorrow :-)
