The bathroom today
Here is the bathroom earlier today....
But Kurt just brought up the other two bath pieces... so now it's looking more like a bathroom!

Pre-spring fun...
That's enough of that bathroom:
Can't go in that way anymore (on the other hand, very weird that there was 2 different rooms...so happy that is done):
As lovely as this will be, there is a bit of mayhem in our house for a while:

8! 8 years old! How??
Our big boy is 8 years old, as of 4 days ago! They are studying Egypt in his class, largely because the June before school started up again, his teacher asked them all what they are interested in, and then she creates a year theme that encompasses all of their interests... that's right... he is the luckiest kid... except the little one's teacher is like that too, so equally lucky! Anyway, he said he was interested in Egypt, so that is what they have been doing for the past several weeks!
Anyway, because of this I made cookies (he wanted chocolate sugar cookies, so I found sugar cookies can indeed be chocolate) and chocolate sugar icing... then I put the first letter of each child's name in the class in hieroglyphs. I put them in the fridge, and they ended up looking sort of weathered like this, which is perfect:

He said people just ate them and loved them and didn't pay attention to the letter! Mental note for future... kids just like cookies... no need to include the Rosetta Stone.
For the party with friends, I read through my favourite birthday party idea site, called "birthdayPartyideas.com" which is where I have gotten sooo many ideas over the years... then I picked the ideas to use... I made an Egypt cake:

The pyramid is made out of rice crispy cake. It was cute... instead of asking for an end piece or a corner piece, kids were saying "Can I have some of the Nile?" or "Can I have some of the pyramid?" The "sand" is actually graham wafer crumbs from Bulk Barn. The cake itself is a beautiful chocolate cake recipe (click here to see it... then MAKE it!) because my 8 year old said he wanted chocolate cake, so I thought "well, then it is going to be REAL chocolate"... and WOW! What a fantastic recipe! It turned out perfectly! Note in the comments of the recipe the "Jennifer" that is talking about how great the cake is - that's me! Because it was great!
When the kids showed up, they went to an archaological dig, in which I had put little plastic Egypt figurines that I had bought from Michaels... they come in a tube. It seemed a good thing to do as they arrived one at a time... something to occupy that waiting time:

Then they had home made pizza, that Kurt made (by request, because his pizza is amazing)...
Then we went on a mummy hunt around the house... This was an idea I got from this website (click here). I had clues written in hieroglyphs, with a code chart that they could all have. They ran up to one room, and found a few mummies, under which one would have a clue for the next room... and off they all ran to that room... up and down together, it was pretty cute! Good reason to have lots of small rooms, and do this at home, because it wouldn't have been as fun in a community centre gymn... where would you hide stuff? I had hieroglyph names above all the entrances to rooms. Once they all found their mummies (they had their names written in hieroglyphs), they opened them in the living room. As they opened them, chocolate coins and jewels (ring pops) fell out, to go with the idea that mummies are in their tombs with all of their prize possessions. I had to refrain from explaining that to a room of kids who might not want the mom to "teach" them on a Saturday. Then, the bigger item was t-shirts that I had made with the Egyptian hieroglyphs for the word "jubilation" which I had found in a book. I decided to loosely interpret the word "jubilation" to mean "party" :-)

I made them all from a template I carved from a pizza box! Good thing I kept it because one was too small, so I'll make another one!
Then cake, presents, and they played "decorate the mummy" which they did with toilet paper. I came up with goofy titles like "most horizontal" or "straightest" instead of having a winner!

There you go, little one...
Well, as helpful as Grandma's sewing machine is, in this case it didn't help because the socks were too fluffy, so I stitched this all by hand... but worth it for little one!

As for the big boy's stop film show, more on that later, because his involves recording his own voice, and 2 different kinds of music, so I have to line that up in Garageband first!!
Where are names?
I don't write any children's names as much as possible, or locations, nor do I put in photos of others' children without asking. This is a private site that cannot be found in a search. It has been shared with you, but please do not share it with others. Thanks, and much appreciated!

Stop film fun
Still waiting for the socks for the sock monkeys to dry, so we're making stop film movies! Thanks to Garageband loops for the rockin' tune!
Now it's our big boy's turn, but he has to make a backdrop first, which is cutting into his Wii time with his new game! That's okay! It's no fun to make stuff like this if it feels like work, so play away... I'll be over here if you need me :-)

Merry-ness
Made a fort at the end of November...

Big boy reading to his little brother:

Decorating the tree:

Telling Santa some important details:

Making a 3D snowflake for Nana and Bop (Click here for the helpful video we used to make it):

After studying chocolate in class, I made class cupcakes (chocolate chocolate chip cupcakes with white chocolate decorations) for the celebration:

Special pajamas for Christmas eve:

Left out some treats for Santa:

And wouldn't you know it, when we came down stairs the next day...

Got some fresh air in the afternoon:

Dressed for Christmas (see back a few posts for the birthday decorated version... and of course for Halloween, no extra accessories needed... that picture would be back in the Halloween posts in October):

Opening presents and having an excellent dinner at Nana and Bop's house with our family:

Then a day to pack to go visit with more family, and more Christmas celebrations:

Off to Grandma and Grandpa's, where Grandpa had a special surprise: a quinzy he made with all their snow! Inside, he put a heart window... so sweet:

Our big boy loved it so much, he wanted to add to it, so here is the additions he created (with help from Daddy):

Present opening, plus the fun of opening the big present box, with smaller and smaller presents in it... the boys love the wrapping paper:

More fresh air, with snowshoes so it's easier to walk through the fields (I said that instead of a pedometer, it would be more helpful to have a snack-o-meter, that shows you as you wear off each treat eaten during the festivities):

Then a wonderful meal together, and some playing of a classic game that was a gift:

Back home where our big boy continued his dream of wanting a sock monkey, so I started studying websites and online videos of how to make one (click here if you want to see one of the amazing sites I found... I actually found it earlier because I was thinking about making felt letters for our little one who LOVES the alphabet, as I have mentioned in other posts).
I started calling places to try to find "sock monkey socks"... yes, there are "sock monkey socks". Click here to see what I'm talking about. Anyway, I didn't try too hard... I decided if I'm at a store sometime and see them, I will get them... but I showed him a picture of a sock monkey done with a regular wool sock and he thought that was cute, so off we went to get socks and stuffing at a fabric store, then I started to make it last night and made most of it this morning, with both boys enjoying adding some padding to our new craft... he loves it:

Especially with his new hat:

Now our little one is quite interested... he picked these socks at the fabric store yesterday, but wasn't super excited until he saw the results this morning... so now he is waiting for his:

So off I go to make another one! Thanks to Grandma for the sewing machine... makes it a bit faster! :-)

Our big little boy!
Our little one is now 4! Well, since Monday... he had letter cookies in the morning and afternoon for 2 different classes... and had muffins today for being person-of-the-week in his class!
Just now, he was lifting his leg and trying to put it behind his head à la Yoga, and exclaimed 'this is hurting me'!!!
So funny!
What a cutey!

4 year old birthday party (but not actual birthday yet)
Had the aforementioned alphabet birthday party today!
Made the cake that sort of started with an ABC cake that I found online with monkeys on it, but then sort of morphed in my head to a palm type tree like the book CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM by Lois Ehlert, a favourite!

Check out the chocolate letters on the side:

Decorated the skeleton he made in class while we waited for guests:

Sort of a Wanda Koop thing going on in that photo above... just went to see her show at the Winnipeg Art Gallery!
Okay, it's no Wanda Koop... but that made you look at her link and her work a bit! :-)
Opening presents...

Gave these cookies as a loot presents to kids as they left... as well as one cookie with their own first letter of their name, and a helium balloon!

As usual, costumes play a major role at our parties, with such a wonderful collection of costumes from family and friends...
